As the heater controls appeared jammed and with the gearbox out, it would be easy to remove the heater, so it was removed! Refurbishment involved replacing the disintegrating foam with a modern substitute, cleaning out the fins of the heat exchanger, testing and cleaning the resistor which permits the two speeds (3 ohms), a coat of black paint and reassembly with stainless steel self tapping screws. On refitting new silicone hoses were used (with J.C.S. HI-GRIP® STAINLESS worm drive hose clips) and all the control cables were replaced with new. The fixing bolts were also stainless!
